FREEDOM

Image
FREEDOM  is accepting what is  (reality)  in the moment. How do we do that difficult act?...by becoming aware of two things:  1) how the inflated ego works 2) how the True Self or Spirit Self works.      The immature ego wants to keeps us in bondage. It wants us living in illusions; it makes us overly attached to our opinions and self-image; it keeps us in control of people and events; it gives us a narrow view/mind  thinking that we know it all. It leads us to negative judgments of people and events; it leads us to greed, jealousy, envy, hatred, revenge, killings, even wars.      The Spirit or True Self on the other hand wants us free from illusions, attachments and  judgments. And the best way to access Spirit is through SILENCE/PRAYER/BEAUTY. Spirit being true and universal, indwelling in everyone,  teaches us right thinking and right action. It leads us to accepting events, ourselves and others as they are. It gui...

FAITH

Image
FAITH... is the assurance of things hoped for... (   Heb 11:1) Life requires much faith in the struggles we all encounter. The thought that God or a Merciful One is there no matter what happens, brings me much peace and comfort. I read that faith is the courageous trust in God's unconditional love as we are and not as we should be. That trust gives us assurance for sure... It takes faith to believe that all events are for our highest good; however if we believe that the Source of all good is on our side and with us, why not?... Faith is the bird that feels light and sings while the dawn is still dark.    Tagore For those with faith, no explanation is necessary ;  for those without, no explanation is possible.  Aquinas Every answer of faith gives infinite meaning to the finite existence of man.    Leo Tolstoy from his book CONFESSION, 1983 translated by D. Patterson We walk by faith, not by sight.   2 Cor 5:7 FAITH is a courageous ...

MORE GOD MOMENTS

Image
GOD MOMENTS        A friend visiting Mother Teresa in Calcutta and wanting to experience her work, was asked to wash a street person covered with sores. The friend hesitated since he was not even given sanitary gloves. However, much to his surprise and joy, the body he was washing became the body of Jesus Christ and the experience seemed timeless. Now this friend sees the suffering Jesus in all the patients he comforts...what a life-transforming encounter! That God moment reminds me of the words of Jesus 2K years ago: WHATEVER YOU DO TO THE LEAST OF THEM, YOU DO IT TO ME.... Matt 25:40 That same bible verse also brings to mind the experience I had when I first started volunteering at the hospital. While sitting quietly in the chapel next to a life-size Pieta, I suddenly noticed the dangling arm/hand of the body of Jesus on Mary's lap. And the hand I saw, was the same hand I saw while visiting patients. It was for me a powerful God moment. By serving the poor ...

COLLABORATION

Image
COLLABORATION      When we see the word  collaboration , we think of harmony among nations, organizations, co-workers, family members, and friends.  Today however, I like to use the word as relationship between you and your True Self, or your Divine Indwelling.  When we listen to our Spirit within, we cooperate and collaborate with the One inspiring us, goading us on to bring about peace and harmony within ourselves and among others,  wherever we are, wherever our calling leads us. And the words of Gandhi come to mind: Be the change you wish to see... In other words, if we wish peace in the world, we must first find that peace in our own heart. The Spirit within is truly the Agent of change, progress, action. When we become aware of the Spirit within, we contribute to the rise of our collective consciousness. PLENTY & POVERTY

Image
PLENTY & POVERTY       When is plenty poverty?...  when excessive consumption is never enough.      If we can appreciate what we have, it will lead us to peace and to God moments. Greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.    Eric Fromm Overwhelmed by quantity, we lose all awareness of life crystallized into small pieces of joy and insight and gratitude.    Joan Chittister  (post inspired from her book BETWEEN THE DARK AND THE DAYLIGHT, 2015) O God of the poor, touch the hearts of those who look only for gain at the expense of the poor and the earth.    Pope Francis SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL SMALL IS BEAUTIFUL for more, search WINNING & LOSING or INDEX http://connectwithlucyusingph otos.blogspot.com

CIVILITY

Image
CIVILITY .....is the result of our awareness of the sacredness of earth, of others and of oneself. If that awareness is missing, we see disrespect for Mother Earth,  for others, and for our own body. The following behavior results: drug addiction, drunkenness, maiming of oneself or others, killings (wars, genocide). And towards the earth, we destroy the environment, the ecosystem; we show little respect for the property of others; garbage and air pollution is seen everywhere... Civility is really kindness, consideration for ourselves and for others, respect for the rights of others. And it starts with us... Civility is inborn gentleness and desire to do the opponent good.    Gandhi Civility is the art and act of caring for others.    Deborah King My religion is KINDNESS.    Dalai Lama There can be no civility without a deep morality... Ralf W. Emerson kindness...a God moment KINDNESS LOVE RESPECT search LOVE http:/...

SURRENDER...LET GO...ACCEPT

Image
SURRENDER is  not  giving up as when an army submits to the other side. Surrender means letting our Higher Self  (called the Universal Force/Flow by Singer) take control of our life.  For that to happen, we have to let go the voice of ego ( voice of resistance) chattering in our mind wanting to control events. For years I had been willing to let go of my personal preferences and focus on doing the absolute best I could with what life presented to me...a life built for me, not by me. Challenging situations create the force needed to bring about change. I was learning to sit quietly in the midst of the howling winds and wait and to see what constructive action was being ask of me.    Michael A. Singer from his book THE SURRENDER EXPERIMENT, 2015,  (post inspired by that book) If anything is worth doing, do it with all your heart.    Buddha Self conquest is really self-surrender.    Thomas Merton Can anyone of you by worrying...
